Kingston debuts for Laois
July 16, 2008
Newcomer Donie Kingston is one of five changes to the Laois team for Saturday's All-Ireland football qualifier against Longford at Pearse Park.
A county minor for the past three years, Kingston makes his championship bow at left corner forward in a much-changed side from that which lost to Wexford in the Leinster SFC semi-final. Manager Liam Kearns has called up Cathal Ryan and Peter O'Leary to his defence in place of the injured Joe Higgins (hamstring) and Mark Timmons (ankle) with Darren Rooney switching from centre back to full back.
Despite concerns about an ankle injury he sustained in a recent club hurling match, Brendan Quigley will make his first championship start of the year at midfield. Neither Kevin Meaney nor Padraig Clancy were considered for selection due to injury and suspension respectively.
Barry Brennan also comes into the side at centre forward in place of Billy Sheehan.
Laois (SF v Longford): M Nolan; C Healy, D Rooney, C Ryan; P O'Leary, T Kelly, P McMahon; B Quigley, J O'Loughlin; R Munnelly, B Brennan, B McCormack; MJ Tierney, C Parkinson, D Kingston.
