In the opening round of the City Permanent tsb 24, Sarsfield St junior A Hurling Championship the favourites to when the city championship again this year Old Christians were beaten by Na Piarsaigh at Rhebogue 4-14 to Old Christians 2-19 in a very exciting game of hurling in which any of the competing sides could have taking victory but the more determine side from Cahirdavin came stronger and won by one single point, the Rathbane side must now get back to winning ways on this Sunday evening at Cahirdavin when they will face St. Patrick,Äôs in round two at 7.30pm. Also in round one and that took place at Mungret saw Crecora getting over Ballybrown by a three point margin 2-13 to 2-10 winners Crecora will now have a bye this weekend while Ballybrown will face Na Piarsaigh this Sunday at Rathbane at an earlier start of 5.30pm. On Monday evening last in Claughaun the home side open their junior B hurling championship account with a convincing victory of 3-13 to 3-05 over Abbey Sarsfields in the first round the Horse & Hound City junior B Hurling championship. The final of the City Bank of Ireland insurance investments intermediate hurling final between Ballybrown and Patrickswell will take place at Clarina new pitch this Saturday evening at 6.45pm. The home side Ballybrown reached this final by recording victories over Kildimo in the quarter final and Mungret in the semi final while Patrickswell had victories over Monaleen in the quarter final and Old Christians in the semi final. Both sides are determined to record a good result in this final and to follow on then in the county championship. On Sunday at 12 noon the Horse & Hound City junior B Hurling championship continues with Pallaskenry home to Crecora while on Tuesday evening at 7.30pm Patrickswell are home to Abbey Sarsfields. It was very disappointing to see Ballybrown, Monaleen and Old Christians to pull out of this competition and to reduce the number of teams now competing to eight, but like everything else the game and competition continues. On Tuesday evening the Morrison,Äôs Bar & Lounge Ballinsimon Road senior football championship semi final between Monaleen and Claughaun will take place at Rathbane at 7.30pm while the replay of the other semi final between Na Piarsaigh and Milford will go ahead on Wednesday evening at 7.30pm in Monaleen new pitch. Congratulations and best of luck to the Monaleen junior A football team on reaching the County junior A football league final. Following the disappointment of our County hurling team last Saturday evening, we at the City G.A.A. Board would like to wish the County senior football team the very best on this Sunday when they will tae on Meath also to the County Intermediate hurling team on this Thursday evening. The next City board meeting will take place on this Monday evening at the Woodfield House Hotel at 8pm.
