Ladies earn first win
July 11, 2008
Wexford Ladies registered their first win of the year last Sunday as three goals helped them overcome the challenge of Westmeath at St Loman's Park, Mullingar in the TG4 Ladies Intermediate Football Championship.
Caroline Murphy's first-half goal came at a vital time late on in the opening 30 minutes as it helped the Model County take in a one-point advantage at the break, with the scores at 1-4 to 1-3.
The early stages of the second-half saw Joanne McCormack sin-binned for the hosts, which saw Wexford capitalizing on the extra player advantage.
Two goals followed with centre-back Leona Tector hitting the net and Murphy grabbing her second from the spot to set up a hefty lead for the visitors.
Westmeath hit back with points from Laura Walsh and Regina Fagan's frees, but the Yellowbellies saw the result through with Murphy and Tara Moloney pointing their side to a 3-8 to 1-9 victory.
