Counihan refusing to make excuses
June 18, 2008
Cork manager Conor Counihan has refused to used last winter's players' strike as an excuse for his side's fortuitous win over Limerick in last Sunday's Munster SFC semi-final.
The bitter dispute between the players and the county board left Cork in limbo for several weeks and resulted in them conceding walkovers in their first two National League games.
But Counihan said: "We're not going to make any excuses for it, we have a Munster final in three weeks' time and we're going to get our heads down and not think about excuses."
The Rebels snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with two late goals against the unfancied Shannonsiders, and Counihan acknowledges that a repeat performance simply won't be good enough against Kerry in the provincial decider on July 6.
"We know we face a very formidable task and we know that level of performance on Sunday will be nowhere near what we have to put up to trouble Kerry," he added.
