Munster JFC: Late White strike sinks Treaty

June 15, 2008
Cork 1-10 Limerick 1-7 An injury-time goal from Cork substitute Gary White ensured that the Rebel County would be in this year's Munster JFC final against neighbours, and great rivals, Kerry after they defeated Limerick by three points in the Gaelic Grounds. Cork seemed to be cruising to the provincial decider when they led the hosts by 0-10 to 0-4 after 50 minutes, but a rally from the Shannonsiders' attack saw them level the game coming into the closing stages. On 54 minutes full-forward Jimmy Barry Murphy hit the net for Limerick, which made way for John O'Connell to strike two superb points followed by a successful Pat Mullins free to level things towards the close. However a high ball launched in by Paul O'Flynn a minutes past the hour was fumbled by Declan O'Connor in the Limerick goal and White was the quickest to the mistake as he tapped the ball into the back of the net to send Cork into the decider.
