Browne boost for Waterford

May 09, 2008
Injury-hit Waterford have received a much-needed boost with the news that Tony Browne won't miss their Munster SHC opener against Clare through suspension. The former Hurler of the Year is free to line out against the Banner County after receiving an eight-week suspension that applies only to club level. Browne received a straight red card within 30 seconds of his introduction as a substitute in Mount Sion's recent county championship defeat to Abbeyside, and was reported by the referee for dangerous play. The offence carries an automatic one-week ban, but Browne had his suspension doubled as he was sent off for a similar indiscretion against De La Salle last September. Waterford will meet Cork in a challenge match at Mallow on Sunday before departing for Portugal on Monday morning for a week of warm-weather training.
