Dan Shanahan Waterford
Hurler of the Year Dan Shanahan will find out on Thursday if he will miss Waterford's Munster championship first round clash with Clare through injury.
Shanahan is anxiously awaiting the results of scans on a knee injury he sustained in the closing stages of Lismore's victory over Mount Sion in the county senior hurling championship last Sunday.
It was initially reported that the prolific goalscorer would require keyhole surgery on damaged ligaments, while it has been speculated locally that the player could be out of action for several months.
The 31-year-old, who was unable to line out against Offaly in a challenge match last Monday, admitted that the injury is causing him much concern.
"This is the last thing I need but hopefully the scans will show up nothing too serious," he said.
"The damage was done with five minutes left but I played on until the end of the game."
If Shanahan were to miss the Clare game on June 1, it would be another crushing blow to Waterford's hopes of retaining their Munster crown. Eoin Murphy and Eoin Kelly are also major injury doubts, while Tony Browne could be facing suspension after receiving a straight red card in a recent club game. In addition, Paul Flynn hasn't yet decided if he will be returning to the inter-county fold.
