Hanniffy blow for Faithful

May 08, 2008
Rory Hanniffy is set to miss Offaly's Leinster hurling championship opener against Laois on May 25 after undergoing knee surgery in Dublin on Tuesday. The Birr star, whose older brother Gary recently announced his inter-county retirement, admitted that time is against him in his bid to be fit for the local derby clash. "It's been a long year and I've been suffering the effects of wear and tear," he said. "It was just a small niggle again, a short-term thing, but I was at the stage where I was struggling big-time with it. "It all depends on how strong it is when I get back on my feet properly. It's up in the air at the moment but it's looking unlikely that I'll be fit in time for Laois."
