Wexford chairman denies Harriers claim
May 08, 2008
Wexford chairman Ger Doyle had refuted claims made by Faythe Harriers that the county board made no attempt to keep Richie Kehoe in Ireland.
Kehoe quit the Wexford hurling panel two weeks ago after booking a flight to Boston. Wexford hurling boss John Meyler was scathing in his criticism of the half back for leaving the squad so close to the start of the championship, and this led to a statement been issued by Willie Murphy, chairman of Kehoe's club, Faythe Harriers, condemning Meyler's remarks.
Murphy claimed: "Richie Kehoe was not presented with job opportunities by GAA authorities in Wexford, and had found himself out of work for a number of weeks before he booked his flight."
However, Doyle told delegates at a county board meeting on Tuesday night that Wexford selector Nick Byrne of Byrne & Byrne Construction, had a job on hold for Kehoe, despite him failing to return an application form which had been provided for him.
