The feel good story of the weekend was undoubtedly Andrew O'Shaughnessy's surprise substitute appearance for Kilmallock in their All-Ireland club SHC semi-final victory over Portaferry.
The former Limerick sharpshooter, who was diagnosed with MS at the age of 27 in 2009, overcame the odds when he came on for the last few minutes of the game in Mullingar on Saturday, which Kilmallock won on a 2-19 to 0-12 scoreline. He can now look forward to an All-Ireland final against Ballyhale Shamrocks at Croke Park on St. Patrick's Day when every Kilmallock supporter will hope the fairytale has a happy ending.
O'Shaughnessy was an exceptional underage talent, being the star of the St. Colman', Fermoy team that won a hat-trick of Harty and Croke Cups in 2001, 2002 and 2003. The army man also won All-Ireland U21 medals with Limerick in 2001 and 2002 before going on to represent the county at senior level for nine years (2002-2011).
