Kehoe: WIT were determined to prove people wrong

March 04, 2014

Dublin's Niall McMorrow and Harry Kehoe of Wexford fight for possession during the Leinster U21 HC final at Parnell Park.
Harry Kehoe never understood why WIT were rank outsiders for the Fitzgibbon Cup.

Colm Bonnar's charges stormed to glory with thrilling victories over LIT and CIT at Queen's University last weekend and ace attacker Kehoe points out that they were spurred on by the fact that nobody rated them:

"That drove us on a little bit that no one gave us a chance," the Wexford attacker says in The Irish Examiner. "We were 9/1 coming into this weekend, in the final we were still the outsiders despite our semi-final win.

"Before the final, we wondered why anyone didn't rate us? We have county players all over the pitch. It is a nice feeling to have proven everybody wrong.

"There was a concern for the final that we mightn't have it in the tank after the 80 tough minutes played out in the semi-final, but we didn't talk about it. You have to stay positive. Our quarter-final went to extra-time, our semi-final went to extra-time, we had it there in the end against CIT and we kicked on with a number of points. Fitness was key and credit management for having us in such good condition.

"It is hard to put this victory into words. You'd be dreaming about these days, when it happens then it is just unbelievable and it will take a few days for it to settle in and for us to really appreciate this victory.

"In WIT we are incredibly close. We wanted it an unbelievable amount and I think that told, we decided we weren't going to leave without that cup."
