McKenna confident premium tickets will sell out
September 10, 2010
Croke Park stadium director Peter McKenna is confident that all of its 10-year premium level tickets will sell out, despite protests at price increases.
Before last Sunday's All-Ireland hurling final, a group of disgruntled fans met and warned that up to 1,000 people would refuse to renew their tickets due to the hike. Ten-year tickets cost EUR12,000 this year, up from EUR7,620 in 2000.
But McKenna claims that all of the protesters have subscribed again and that there will be no premium seats left empty in 2011.
He told the Irish Daily Star: "We're very, very pleased with the take-up on our premium seats.
"The protest hasn't diminished people's enthusiasm at all and the irony of it is all of those who were on television protesting have renewed all of their seats."
However, protest organiser Michael Hickey says he isn't alone in not renewing his tickets.
"I won't be renewing under the current pricing structure. And I'm not alone. I wouldn't have the exact figures, but I was talking to another person who feels the same just this morning.
"Peter McKenna may say that they are going to sell out, but I would wonder why they were advertising premium tickets in the programme at the match on Sunday."
