Donegal chairman slams ref abuse
September 10, 2010
Donegal County board chairman PJ McGowan has condemned the abuse that match officials have received at club games and stressed that the situation needed to be addressed.
County referees' administrator Frankie Doherty brought the matter before the monthly meeting of the county board last week following a number of unsavoury incidents over the past few months.
This involved one referee being struck by a supporter and another where an official had to be escorted off the pitch as he was apprehended by players.
"Referees make mistakes, players make mistakes, we all make mistakes and we all have to accept this and some of the abuse that has been directed at referees in recent times cannot be tolerated and referees have to be respected," said McGowan.
