Corofin handed home advantage for final
November 12, 2008
Galway champions Corofin have received an unexpected boost after they were awarded home advantage for their Connacht club football final clash with Eastern Harps on Sunday week.
Both teams were led to believe that the Sligo champions would have home advantage for the final based on a long standing home-and-away arrangement between the counties. But the Connacht Council has confirmed that the last meeting between two clubs from the counties took place in Sligo four years ago when Tourlestrane played Killererin.
A clearly pleased Corofin manager Jimmy Sice said: "It's a nice boost as we were led to believe that the match would be in Markievicz Park.
"It has not yet been decided whether the game will go ahead at Tuam Stadium or Pearse Stadium in Salthill.
"It's a bonus at this stage to get a home draw. There was some confusion but at least now we won't have to travel. We do, however, know we will face a big test."
