Hurlers receive Rackard Cup medals
November 06, 2008
Kilkenny's All-Ireland winning manager Brian Cody was full of praise for the Sligo hurlers when he presented them with their Nicky Rackard Cup medals in the Clarion Hotel last Saturday night.
Widely regarded as the most successful hurling manager of all time, Cody told the huge gathering how he was privileged to be in Sligo on such an historic occasion and urged the heroes of 2008 to build on this season's success in the years ahead.
He said it was vital to have a committed panel of players as well as good management and underage structures. Cody singled out the long-serving Paul Seevers for special praise. He said he always admired the hurling skills of the Tubbercurry and was delighted to see him finally win a major title in Croke Park.
Hurling board secretary Brian McCann was the MC for the event and other speakers included hurling board chairman Tom Brennan and county board chairman John Murphy.
