O'Hara hails new 'dream team'

November 06, 2008
Sligo's Eamonn O'Hara has labelled the Yeats County's new team management as a 'dream team' and one that he thinks can lead the county back to provincial glory, and beyond. Last Tuesday night former Galway All-Ireland winner Kevin Walsh was appointed as Sligo's new senior football manager, with ex-county stars Paul Durcan, Paul Taylor and Dessie Sloyane making up his backroom team. While the experience of the new management is questionable, O'Hara has welcomed the appointments and is hopeful that under the new setup Sligo can regain that Connacht SFC title that they captured in 2007. "Obviously people will question their experience but Kevin has brought three good lads with him," said O'Hara. "So you have a manager who knows what it takes to win and three lads with him who have solidered for Sligo until recently so I suppose you could call it a dream team. "It's up to the players now," he admitted. "We'll have largely the same side as that which won the Connacht title in 2007 and then were a disgrace to Sligo football last year. We need to get that confidence back that we had when we won the Connacht title and I think Kevin can bring that. Winning is a habit, just like losing, and Kevin has won and that's what he'll bring to us." Since the start of the decade Sligo has seen seven managers different managers coming and go, the latest being Tommy Jordan this past summer, but O'Hara believes the blame did not lie with him for the team's failure to regain their provincial crown, but with the underachieving players. "Things didn't work out with Tommy Jordan. That was no fault of his. It's all about finding what works for you. Last year, we didn't push on after winning Connacht. In fact, we were naïve and got a little bit lazy and didn't apply ourselves as well as we should."
