Junior Championship Killeevan 1-10 Drumhowen 2-10 We feel unfortunate not to have come away from this exciting championship encounter with a win or at least a draw. As in previous games we failed to punish the opposition when we enjoyed a purple patch mid way during the second half registering 4 wides in a 10 minute period where we dominated proceedings. The game was evenly balanced with only a point separating the sides approaching full time, However Drumhowen raised there game and rallied to score two unanswered points to run out 1 point winners at the finish. Even though we lost we played well as a team. We were without the services or regular centre back Vinny Martin through suspension and were missing a number of other regulars for various reasons. The commitment level of the team on the night was exceptional with the defence standing firm as a unit against a very talented Drumhowen forward line. Our midfielders Colly and Kevin marshalled the Drumhowen pairing of Mc Elroy and Mc Ginnitty well and contributed a point each from play. Up front we did put some good moves together resulting in points from Ian, Noel, Darren Greenan, Richard and second half substitute Ciaran Toye. We hit the net in the first half when Ian Larmer got his fist to a cross field ball from Noel Smyth. Overall, disappointing to lose but plenty of positive aspects to take from this game which we can build on in training in preparation for the next round. It was the visitors who settled better and killeevan had there backs to the wall for much of the first half going in at the break 0-13 to 2-1 down. The goals scored by S. Maguire and D.Conlon. The second half was a much tighter affair with a number of switches made by both sides. killeevan kept eating away into the Ballybay lead scoring 1-7 to Ballybays 0-6 but the final whistle came just in time for the young visitors who ran out 2 point winners on a final scoreline of 0-19 to 3-8.
