This weekend the attention centres on the Gormley uPVC senior football championship with four games down for decision, two in Castleblayney on Saturday evening and two in Clontibret on Sunday evening with top billing going to the meeting of reigning champions Clontibret and Latton in Castleblayney on Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.. That game is preceded by the meeting of Monaghan Harps and Magheracloone which is a sudden death match for both with the losers going out of the series. It is a similar situation for Carrickmacross and Doohamlet on Sunday evening in Clontibret at 5 p.m. with the losers exiting the series and that game is followed by the old firm derby between Scotstown and Castleblayney at 6:30 p.m. Should any of those matches this weekend end in a draw the replays will be on Saturday, September 6th. This weekend also sees the replay in the Westenra Hotel Junior football championship between Oram and Toome in Blackhill on Saturday at 3.00pm with extra time allowed for if necessary. LEAGUES. As well as those five championship matches there is also a round of games in the Harte Peat intermediate football league and two games in the Gerry's Fresh Fruit & Veg junior football league, all timed for 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. In the intermediate football league Emyvale are at home against Ballybay, Corduff are at home against Aughnamullen, Sean McDermotts have home advantage over Eire Og in what is always a well contested derby match, Cremartin are away to Donaghmoyne and Rockcorry have a rerun of their intermediate championship game when they meet Truagh. JFL In the junior football league there will only be two games from this particular round played on Sunday with Blackhill having home advantage over Killeevan and Aghabog travelling to Clones. The games involving Killanny and Oram and the Toome versus Drumhowan game have been postponed as both Toome and Oram are involved in their junior championship replay on Saturday afternoon. TABLES. The round of matches played last week in the minor football championship saw Monaghan Harps prove too strong for Cremartin, Castleblayney suffered a five points defeat at the hands of Latton, Scotstown accounted for Emyvale, Clontibret got a walkover against Inniskeen, Sean McDermotts defeated Truagh and St Patrick's got a walkover against Clones. Following last week's results the draw for the next round of matches in the losers group has produced the following pairings which will be played on Monday next September 1st at 6.45pm. Emyvale v. Carrickmacross in Emyvale. Castleblayney v. Saint Patricks in Castleblayney. Cremartin v. Clontibret in Cremartin. Donaghmoyne who defeated Aughnamullen on Tuesday evening meet Sean McDermotts in Donaghmoyne, with all games at 6.45pm and extra time allowed for if necessary. Meanwhile in the Boyle & Curran sponsored minor football league there are play-off in Divisions 1, 2 and one outstanding game in division 3 tomorrow night, Friday, August 29th. In division 1 Aughnamullen play Cremartin in Drumhowan at 7.00pm, in division 2 Carrickmacross and Sean McDermotts meet in Cremartin at 6:45 p.m. while in division 3 Magheracloone meet Doohamlet in Magheracloone at 7.00pm. Extra time is mandatory in the two playoff games in the event of the sides finishing level at the end of normal time. O'DUFFY CUP. Wednesday next, September 3rd, sees the semifinals of the O'Duffy Cup with Carrickmacross taking on Clontibret in Blackhill and Inniskeen meeting Castleblayney in Aughnamullen. Both games are timed for a 6:45 p.m. start with extra time in the event of a draw at the end of normal time. HURLING. It is semi-final time in the Silver Hill Foods reserve hurling league with Castleblayney and Clontibret who are due to meet in the postponed final of the senior hurling championship still a line to complete a senior championship and reserve hurling league double. In the reserve league semi finals which take place this evening Thursday, August 28th Castleblayney travel to Gavan Duffy Park to take on Monaghan Harps while Clontibret have home advantage over Carrickmacross. Both games are timed for a 6:45 p.m. start and extra time is pencilled in in the event of a draw at the end of normal time. At the time of going to press no new date has been announced for the postponed senior hurling championship and senior hurling Shield finals. Meanwhile Thursdau next September 4th sees a round of games in the senior hurling league that should sort out semi final pairings with Carrickmacross meeting Inniskeen and Latton away at Truagh with both games at 6.30pm.
