Kildare crush Wicklow to move into Christy Ring Cup final

Kildare are through to the 2022 Christy Ring Cup final after brushing aside Wicklow with a 5-25 to 3-10 victory in Aughrim this afternoon.

The win marked the Lilywhites fourth on the bounce and ensures them of a trip to Croke Park on the weekend of May 21/22 with one round remaining in the competition.

Johnny Byrne and Gerry Keegan bagged goals for the winners in the opening 11 minutes at Joule Park, where they’d go on to lead by 2-12 to 1-5 at the half.  

Brian Byrne and James Burke netted more majors for the visitors in quicks success after the turnaround and Cathal Dowling would add another with five minutes to go to help round off the 21-point victory.

In Ballina, Mayo left themselves a win away from joining Kildare in the final by defeating Sligo on 2-23 to 1-20 score-line.

Having trailed by 0-13 to 0-12 at the break, the home side produced the second-half goods to record their third victory in the competition.
