Wexford manager Davy Fitzgerald branded his side’s performance against Galway this evening at Croke Park as “absolutely terrible”.

The Slaneysiders slumped to a 1-27 to 0-17 defeat at the hands of the Tribesmen, surrendering their Leinster SHC crown in the process as their opponents eased towards a provincial final date against Kilkenny in two weeks’ time.

Speaking to RTE Sport afterwards, Fitzgerald made no excuse for his side’s under par display.

"We were absolutely terrible. All I can say to the Wexford supporters is that I am extremely disappointed for the way we performed," the Model County boss stated.

"We showed no guts, no fight and no character. It's extremely disappointing.

"Fair play to Galway, they were miles ahead of us and they wanted it more than we did. In the three and a bit I've been here we've never thrown in the towel that easily.

“It's really disappointing, myself and the boys will have to hold our hands up, we were not at it."
