We wish the teams, and Paul, the best of luck for the new season and applaud their dedication and voluntary commitment to the club.

Green Club Status

Saturday last in Croke Park was another proud occasion for the club when it was presented with an 'Official GAA Green Club' Plaque of recognition as its status as a Green Club.

This ceremony included the official launch of the association’s Green Club toolkit. This was produced in conjunction with club’s who were involved and engaged in Phase 1 of the Green Club programme.  Mullingar Shamrocks, thanks to the initiative, enthusiasm and commitment of our Green Club officer, Joan Ormsby played a central role in the development of this toolkit and the club features prominently in the finished product section dealing with biodiversity with Mullingar Shamrocks nominated as a mentor club for Phase 2 of the worthy initiative. The biodiversity section of the toolkit contains suggestions for a wide variety of actions that clubs can undertake to maintain and enhance biodiversity in their grounds. Joan Ormsby and Debbie Newman represented the club at the Croke Park function and we compliment Joan for her work in the programme.

The Australians Are Coming

On Thursday afternoon, 8 December, Mullingar Shamrocks renew acquaintances with Aussie Rules football when 35 young members of the Wanderers Australia AFL Boys touring team arrive in Springfield to play two Gaelic football matches against Mullingar Shamrocks. The mainly under-16 travelling party departed from Sydney on Wednesday last and flew via Singapore, and arrived in Dublin on Thursday last.

This is the fourth occasion Mullingar Shamrocks have hosted the visiting AFL players who were annual visitors before the COVID virus interrupted the travel plans for a number of years. The Australian visitors first played in Mullingar in 2017, a girls team visited in January 2019 with the boys visiting again in December 2019.

The visitors arrive in Mullingar at approximately 2.00 pm in good time for the football matches which kick-off at 3.00 pm.

Speedy Recovery Sophie

The surgery is completed and Sophie Hegarty is safely back in Gainstown with the torn cruciate ligament repaired thanks to the skill of Ray Moran and his team at the Santry Clinic.

The rehab begins on Monday, supervised by Karen no doubt, who has some experience in returning to full fitness from the dreaded cruciate injury.

Best wishes from all at Shamrocks, Sophie (one of our most dedicated members) for a speedy and full recovery.
