Division 3 v Ballynacargy

Despite travelling to Ballynacargy with only 17 players last Saturday afternoon, we ended our All-County League Division 3 campaign on a high thanks to a 2-13 to 2-9 victory.

While the hosts were also depleted and had already secured promotion as well as a place in the divisional final against Killucan, this was still an excellent win for us as the focus now switches to the IFC and a tough opener against Tubberclair in July. Nigel Scally set the tone with a goal inside the first minute which helped us to a 1-7 to 0-6 interval lead.

A second goal from Micheál Coffey shortly after the restart tightened our grip on proceedings before Bal’ hit back with majors from Ryan Maher and Jude McGuinness. But our defence held firm after that as we finished the League with a fifth win, something that seemed improbable after a slow start to the campaign.

Team: Adrian Carroll; James Hanlon, Colin Draper, Stephen Carroll; Keith Corcoran, Brendan McMahon, Mel Kiernan; Nigel Scally, Niall Carey; Dean Fitzgerald, Shaun Pidgeon, Micheál Coffey; Cathal Finn, Darragh Coffey, Joey O’Neill. Subs: Michael Joyce and Finbar Coffey.
