U13s Southern Gaels 3-4 v St. Brigid’s 2-6

Our Under 13, 15, 17 and Intermediate sides have all reached the county semi-final stages with the Under 13 side first into action last week. They laid down a marker for the others with a well-deserved victory away to St Bridget's Rochfortbridge. From the start the game was fought with huge intensity with the midfield pairing of Kyle Mahon and Seán O'Neill in fine form. Matthew Turner and Donnacha Lee set up many chances and hurled well throughout. Aaron Hardiman and Jack Dowling defended with great authority. However, the Athlone side were behind by a point at the interval. On the resumption the Morgans Diarmuid and Ciaran played some delightful hurling. Oisin O' Donoghue excelled at full forward while Stephen O'Connor and Aaron Power marshalled the defence. A top-class Dara Geary goal followed by a similar score from Luke Duffy put the Athlone boys on the road to victory and with Gary Pendergast and Josh Baines, in goals, defending well a narrow victory was ensured. They can now look forward to the county final against St. Vincent's in two weeks time.

Southern Gaels: Josh Baines, Jack Dowling, Stephen O’Connor, Aaron Hardiman, Gary Prendergast, Aaron Power, Matthew Turner, Kyle Mahon (1-3), Seán O Neill (0-1), Ciaran Morgan, Luke Duffy (1-0), Diarmuid Morgan, Donnacha Lee, Oisin O Donoghue, Dara Geary (1-0).

U15s Southern Gaels 6-11 v Delvin 2-5

Having topped their Championship group Southern Gaels played fourth place from the opposite group. The Gaels started well and took some great goals, with some clever play into the forwards. This was backed up by some well taken points and Southern Gaels, aided by the breeze, were well in control throughout the first half. In the second half there was stiffer competition as Delvin came to terms with the conditions following the long journey from northeast Westmeath. They hit the back of the Gaels net twice to setup an exciting last quarter. However, the Gaels had enough hurling in them to pull away and runout winners of this quarter final with 24 players seeing some game time on the night. It sets them up for a semi-final versus Clonkill, while Raharney and St Oliver Plunkett's contest the other semi-final.
