May 25, 2020Lockdown Event Three
Southern Gaels are hosting an event on Saturday May 30th to help all members pass an enjoyable Saturday evening. There will be Bingo, a Quiz and a Hurling Skills video competition. There will be plenty of prizes for participants. We need as many families as possible to take part. Funds raised will be in aid of Athlone Samaritans. Participants are to contribute through the link https://www.facebook.com/donate/684291232141007/ The event will be run from 8p.m. and all details are on our various WhatsApp pages.
All members young and not so young can send their video clips of their hurling skills (about 10 seconds) to Martin Geary 087 2253350 for judging.
The Club Draws for March and April will also be held on line during the event.
Club Draw.
The new Monthly Draw 2020 to 2021 starts from May and will be held monthly at a later date. Anyone wishing to join and help fund our club may do so by contacting Kevin Jordan 078 7989941 or any committee member. Cost is €120 a year or direct debit of €10 a month. There is a €500 prize fund each month.

Forty years ago Southern Gaels were a young club just seven years old. Tang won the local adult hurling league.
Thirty years ago Southern Gaels won the Under 21, 11 - a - side, county final with Sean Pander as captain and also the Under 12 county final with Paddy Dunning as captain.
Twenty years ago the club won the Senior League Division 11 with a epic win over Castletown Geoghegan in the final. Tony O'Keeffe was the captain. This was followed by the first of three in a row wins in the Junior 'B' championships with Kevin Jordan leading the side.
Ten years ago the juvenile teams were amalgamated with Fr. Dalton's from Ballymore and they captured the Under 16 'C' title with Jamie Anders as captain.
Five years ago with a rejuvenation of our juvenile structures in place the club won both the Under 10 Frank Young Cup and the Under 8 Darren O'Donnell Tournament signalling a bright future.
We are all looking forward to recalling 'days like this' when we celebrate our Golden Jubilee in June 2023. Book your tickets for our Gala Dinner now as they are selling fast.
