Inspired by the brilliant Seamus Harnedy, Cork found their groove to come away from Walsh Park with a crucial 2-22 to 1-19 victory against Waterford in the Munster SHC.

Having lost their opening two matches to Limerick and Clare, Kieran Kingston's side were in bad need of a win heading to Páirc Breathnach this afternoon.

Two-goal hero Alan Connolly also stood out for the Rebels on a day when their Glen Rovers talisman Patrick Horgan broke the championship's all-time scoring record.

Man-of-the-match Harnedy helped himself to five points from play while the hosts were reduced to 14-men when Austin Gleeson saw red for an off-the-ball-incident.

Waterford were the better team in the early stages and they led by 0-6 to 0-2 after 14 minutes with Stephen Bennett's sound free-taking making all the difference.

But Cork soon got a grip of proceedings, spurred by Connolly's opener on 22nd minutes, they held a slender 1-12 to 1-11 half-time lead after Michael Kiely fired to the net at the other end.

Blackrock clubman Connolly pounced for his second goal on the third-quarter mark before Conor Lehane added a free to give the Rebels a five-point cushion.

The Deise lost their way after Gleeson was sent off in the 63rd minute for seemingly striking out at Robert Downey who was also booked for his involvement in the incident.
