"It's an extra hurdle...the less hurdles you're jumping the better" - Logan

Tyrone joint-manager Feargal Logan says the Red Hands face “a big, big challenge” in trying to retain the Sam Maguire Cup next year.

This afternoon’s 2022 provincial championship draws pitted the All-Ireland champions of the preliminary round of the Ulster championship where they will face Fermanagh away and, should they get over that test, a derby against Derry in the quarter-finals awaits.

Speaking on RTE’s Saturday Sport after the draw was made, Logan was asked on his thoughts about retaining the Sam Maguire Cup next year.

"It’s a very attractive notion,” he said. “Brian (Dooher), myself and everyone involved with us, we just set out to bring Tyrone back to the top table. If you’re at the top table, you want to be dining at it repeatedly.

"It’s a big, big challenge for us in Tyrone to try and do that."

Even if they were to retain their Ulster crown, Logan knows they’d face a tall order to repeat the feat they achieved this past season.

"There hasn’t been much chat about the rehabilitation of the Dubs, and rehabilitation is probably too strong a word. They are going to be coming out hot and heavy. Kerry will be coming out hot and heavy next year.

"You could find yourself out in the middle of May next year and back to the 90s where you have a long, long summer of club football.

"Let’s take it one step at a time in Tyrone."
