Kildare manager David Herity reckons hurling's new advantage rule “is going to kill the game”.

A five-time All-Ireland winner with Kilkenny, Herity joined the chorus of criticisms directed at the revised interpretation of the advantage rule after the GAA season returned this past weekend with the opening round of the Allianz Hurling League.

Speaking on Off The Ball ahead of his side’s Division 2B opener against Donegal this Saturday, Herity says that the new advantage rule “will slow up the game hugely”.

"If you're playing against a stronger team, you're going to bring your forward out from full-forward and you could spend a minute and a half there standing over a free and then back in again," said the former Cats goalkeeper.

"It will slow up the game hugely and I don't see why that rule was changed."

He added: “I think it is going to kill the game. I haven't heard one positive comment about the whole thing."
