Westmeath duo retire from inter-county hurling

Westmeath hurling greats Brendan Murtagh and Eoin Price.

Westmeath have been hit by the retirement of two of their most experienced hurlers.

Clonkill clubmen Brendan Murtagh and Eoin Price have both played their last game for the county.

They bow out on a winning note after helping Westmeath to victory over Carlow in the Joe McDonagh Cup yesterday.

37-year-old Murtagh, who made his championship in 2001, previously retired in July 2017 before returning to a playing role against Antrim last month as team selector.

Price, 32, has been a member of the Westmeath senior set-up since 2007 and captained Ireland in the Hurling/Shinty International Series.
