Reigning All-Ireland champions Ballyhale Shamrocks suffered a nine point defeat at the hands of O'Loughlin Gaels at UPMC Nowlan Park yesterday evening.

A late goal by Eoin Reid earned Ballyhale an opening round draw against Tullaroan but they finished on the wrong end of a 2-21 to 0-18 scoreline on this occasion.

Goals from Jack Nolan and Conor Kelly ensured O'Loughlin Gaels took victory in this Kilkenny SH Group A league encounter after Ballyhale had led by the minimum at the break, 0-9 to 0-8.

Ballyhale will be hoping for improved performances ahead of the start of the championship in three weeks' time. In the other group game, James Stephens finished 0-22 to 0-18 winners over Tullaroan at John Locke Park.
