Moycullen are Connacht club senior football champions after producing the second-half goods to see off Sligo's Tourlestrane by 0-13 to 0-6 in Salthill this afternoon.
The victory saw the Galway champions claim their first ever Connacht title and set-up an All-Ireland semi-final showdown with the winners of next weekend’s Ulster decider between holders Kilcoo and Glen of Derry.
Johnny Kelly had steered Tourlestrane into a 0-3 to 0-2 lead after 15 minutes before the frees of Dessie Conneely (2) sent the would-be winners in at the break with the minimum advantage.
Owen Gallagher doubled the lead three minutes into the restart and further scores from Michael O’Reilly, Paul Kelly and the excellent Peter Cooke had Moycullen with one hand on the cup.
Liam Gaughan grabbed a sorely needed point for the Sligo men but they wouldn’t catch their counterparts, as Tom Clarke (2), Cooke (2) and Kelly rounded off their winning tally to secure a maiden provincial crown for their club.
