Funeral of former GAA president Seán McCague to take place tomorrow

The funeral of former GAA president Seán McCague will take place tomorrow (Saturday) in his native Scotstown, Co Monaghan.

Mr McCague, who held the role as GAA president from 2000 to 2003, passed away yesterday at the age of 77.

After learning of his passing, current GAA president Larry McCarthy offered condolences to the departed’s wife and daughters and “to his wide circle of friends and those who admired and respected him”.

He added: “Seán was an astute leader at a time when the organisation benefitted greatly from his wisdom, experience and undoubted influence.

“He served the Association at every level, from Scottstown up and he left an indelible mark on our games and the GAA as we know it today.”

Funeral details for Seán McCague via RIP.ie are as follows:

Sean will be resting at the family home (H18PH39), Friday, from 1pm to 9pm, house private at all other times, please, with removal on Saturday morning at 11.30am to arrive at St Mary's Chapel, Urbleshanny, for 12 noon Funeral Mass, followed by burial in adjoining cemetery.

House strictly private to family on Saturday morning, please. Family Flowers only please, donations in lieu of flowers, if desired to the Lorgan Unit, St Mary's Hospital, Castleblayney c/o Martin's Funeral Directors, Newbliss or any family member. Please note there will be shuttle buses in operation from Urbleshanny Hall.
