The GAA community in Cavan and further beyond has shown its support for football star Caoimhan McGovern as he begins his fight against cancer.

The Glanglevin native was diagnosed with Stage Two Lymphoma cancer shortly after his 19th birthday this past July.

A talented forward, Caoimhan made his senior debut for Cavan in 2020 and featured prominently in the Breffni men's attack this season.

A fundraiser set up by Caoimhan’s best friend and fellow Shannon Gaels club mate Declan McLoughlin raised over €21,000 in just three days for the Sligo and Cavan Oncology day wards. Today the total raised stands at close to €35,000.

The fundraiser, which in addition to supporting a worthy cause, will also see dozens of the Caoimhan’s friends commit to a ‘Shave or Dye’ challenge.

The money raised from the Shave or Dye fundraiser will be divided between the Oncology ward, Cavan General Hospital and the Oncology ward, Sligo University Hospital.
