Kiladangan opened their defence of the Dan Breen Cup with a dramatic 2-23 to 2-22 victory over Loughmore-Castleiney in what was a repeat of last year's county final at Semple Stadium on Friday evening.

Goals from Dan O'Meara and Sean Hayes had the champions 2-17 to 0-17 up at the start of the fourth quarter, but Loughmore battled back to level with majors from Ciaran McCormack and Ed Connolly before Alan Flynn scored a late winning point for Kiladangan.

In the weekend's other big games, goals from David Young and Darren Delaney helped Toomevara to a 2-20 to 2-11 win over Holycross-Ballycahill, while Paddy Creedon bagged 3-3 for Thurles Sarsfields in their 5-19 to 1-23 defeat of Drom & Inch.

Kilruane McDonaghs held on for a 1-26 to 2-21 win over Nenagh Eire Og, Clonoulty-Rossmore trumped Mullinahone (for whom Eoin Kelly posted 0-9) by 0-24 to 1-15, a Brendan Maher-inspired Borris-Ileigh defeated Roscrea by 2-24 to 0-15, while Dean McEnroe's 32nd minute goal was crucial in JK Brackens' 1-16 to 1-13 victory over Moycarkey-Borris.
