The last inter-county football manager vacancy will be filled tonight when Roscommon GAA holds a special county board meeting to ratify Anthony Cunningham’s successor.

It’s almost three months since Cunningham stepped down, but it would appear that the Rossies have finally found their man which is understood to be one of Davy Burke, Pat Flanagan and Brendan Hackett. Burke led his native Kildare to an All-Ireland U20FC title in 2019 before managing Wicklow, Flanagan guided Padraig Pearses to a famous Connacht club SFC title last year, while Hackett is a former Longford, Offaly and Westmeath manager who is currently in charge of Ballymun Kickhams.

The three were interviewed for the post along with Meath legend Bernard Flynn, who subsequently pulled out of the race.

Roscommon is the only county without a senior football manager following Paddy Carr’s appointment in Donegal on Monday.
