Limerick's Gearoid Hegarty

Limerick star Gearoid Hegarty and Tipperary manager David Power have won the respective Sky Sports Gaelic Writers’ Association Hurling and Football Personality of the Year awards for 2020.

Hegarty, who was named Hurler of the Year last year, notched seven points from open play against Waterford in the All-Ireland SHC final back in December as the Treaty men collected their second Liam MacCarthy Cup in three years.

As for Power, he steered Tipp to a first Munster senior football championship title in 85 years last November with victory over Cork at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Elsewhere, Kilkenny People journalist and sports editor John Knocks picked up the Writers’ Lifetime Achievement Award, having retired last year after 46 years with the local newspaper.

Tipperary’s Joe Bracken received the award for PRO of the Year.
