Kilbride to officially open its state of the art club gym and walking track

June 24, 2022

Like with all GAA clubs they are built from the foundations up by men and women who gave so much of their time

Saturday June 25th will be a day of remembrance but also celebration in Kilbride GFC. Having to shelve the official opening by two years due to look down Kilbride will officially open its state of the art Club GYM and Walking track.

Our purpose built block building will be officially unveiled. Building works commenced back in October 2019 and it took six months to complete only for the opening to be shelved due to lock down. Kilbride also constructed a new walking track and new lighting at the same time.

Like with all GAA clubs they are built from the foundations up by men and women who gave so much of their time to ensure that those coming behind them have a club and facilities that they can be proud of. We lost a lot of dear friends during covid so it is only fitting that we remember those who have left an imprint on our club.

Tommy Mahon a stalwart of GAA across the County but especially in Kilbirde where he served as Chairman for over 30 years. Tommy sadly passed away last year having been an active committee member right up until his passing. Tommy was ever present during the development of the Walking track and GYM so in his memory our Club GYM will be  known as the Tommy Mahon GYM. A fitting tribute to someone who gave a lifetime of service to the GAA.

Gerry & Martin Quinn also passed away in recent times and they too have left their legacy in Kilbride and in Meath. The Quinn name was known and feared for many a year on the playing fields of Ireland and the Club is here today because of these men. On Saturday Kilbride Ladies will take on Neighbours St Peters Dunboyne for the Quinn Memorial Cup a cup that has been kindly sponsored by the Quinn Family and it will be an annual event when we remember two great men from Kilbride when playing for the Quinn Cup.

Events kick off at 1pm with under age games along a list of fun events for all, a BBQ, Ice Cream and much more. Our GYM opening ceremony will commence at 4pm. MC for the evening will be none other than Brendan Cummins. We will be also joined on the day by a number of Ministers and Guests Friends and members of Kilbride GFC. Chairman of Meath GAA John Kavanangh will officially cut the Ribbon.
