Wolfe Tones surprised many when beating Boardsmill in the delayed 2020 Intermediate Hurling Championship final. The winners were well served by keeper Killian O’Brien, Eoghan and Eanna Harrington, Brian Meade, Donal Keogan, captain Stephen Sheppard and the impressive Waterford native Kieran Conway.
Boardsmill bounced back a couple of months later to take the 2021 version after a stunning comeback extra time win over Drumree. The ‘Mill’ had some outstanding displays from David Farrell, Conor Darby, Jim Bird, Eamon Roche, Ray Hatton, Steve Gibbons, Liam O’Brien, Fergal Flattery and captain Neil McLoughlin during that successful run.
Drumree were well represented by Sean Doyle, Cathal McCormack, Josh Wall and the very impressive David Reilly.
Conor Dempsey, David McCormack, Conor O’Shea and Luke Martin had good moments for semi finalists Dunderry.
Rathmolyon continue to build and they had some great displays from defenders Simon Ennis and David Morgan along with Trevor Healy and Gary Doherty.
Will Power from Kildalkey was one of the top scorers in the 2021 campaign while county senior captain Seanie Geraghty and the returned Willie McGrath impressed for Kilskyre Moylagh.
One player stood out for us in ’21, Boardsmill’s Danny Dixon. Immense on the edge of the square Dixon’s ability to read the game, win possession and get crucial scores was one of the main factors in the ‘Mill’s race towards senior hurling in 2022.
Well done Danny, our Intermediate Hurler of the Year for 2021
