Brendan Davis Cup final: Old guard inspires Kiltale to victory

Kiltale got some reward for their year after securing the Division 1 league title and were worthy winners of the Brendan Davis Cup played in great conditions in Kildalkey.

Missing alot of players from the senior final the previous Sunday the old guard stood up and led by Willie Mahady at full back and the evergreen Stephen Donoghue at centre back and up front Peter Durnin who chipped in with 1-2.

This was a tough game played in the right spirit by both teams and lads but their bodies on the line and from the word go Kiltale were on the front foot with a goal by Peter Durnin after great work by Mark O'Sullivan to put him through on goal and this was followed by 2 points from Jack Regan at full forward.

Conor McNally and Brian O'Reilly broke up numerous Trim attacks and Shane Lenihan move back as sweeper worked to great effect.

Captain James Kelly broke through the middle and finished off a great move with a cracking goal to put Kiltale 6 points clear.

On the run into half time Padraig Kelly broke up the left wing to hit 2 great points after some great work by David Donoghue.

In the second half Kiltale were playing down the hill and got a great start from Eoghan Frayne who collected the ball beat his man and hit a fine point.

Trim had many attacks but Kiltale's rearguard stood firm and Conor Ryan brought off a few great saves. Mahady and Donoghue marshalled the Kiltale defence greatly assisted by Shiren, Reilly, McNally and Lenihan as sweeper.

In midfield area James Kelly gave a captain's display and added 2 points in the second half.

Stephen Donoghue hit 2 mighty second half points after savage work by Mark O'Sullivan who at centre forward set up numerous scoring opportunities for his team mates.

Kiltale captain James Kelly accepted the cup from Martin O'Halloran and Donal Davis representing the Davis Family.
