Ballinabrackey 2:10 St. Colmcilles 0:12

Ballinabrackey made the long journey down to Piltown on Friday evening to take on St. Colmcilles in round 6 of the Premier Championship.

St. Colmcilles started well with a point from play straight away but a well taken free from Evan Daly got the Bracks on the scoreboard. Good play from the Bracks led to two score from Collie McNally and Jack McLoughlin. St. Colmcilles came back strong with a point from play and an almost goal which was not awarded due to a square ball.  Ballinabrackey made sure to punish this chance at goal just after the water break when Jack McLoughlin nailed the back of the St. Colmcilles net after a super run from Simon Finn, quickly followed by a point from play from Ronan Thompson. St. Colmcilles never panicked when the Bracks attacked and came back with 3 unanswered points from play but Evan Daly got a point from play to put the Bracks 3 points ahead going into half time with the score as Ballinabrackey 1:05 St. Colmcilles 0:05.

Evan Daly kept the scores ticking over for Ballinabrackey with a point from play but the ‘Cilles were quick in response with a point from play. This second half was going to be a close battle with scores coming quickly from both sides. Another good work of play from Simon Finn, Ronan Thompson and Evan Daly led to Evan Daly rattling the back of the net to put Ballinabrackey six points ahead. The Bracks looked very strong with another point from Jack McLoughlin but the ‘Cilles kept fighting back and they dominated the next 10 minutes of the game. Three wides from ‘Cilles kept Ballinabrackey in a good position but the Cilles kept going with three more points to leave only four points between the side. Jack McLoughlin and Gordon Bannon pushed the Bracks on with two more points but again similar to all play throughout this game St. Colmcilles got two more points. The substitutes helped steady the Ballinabrackey ship and Collie McNally got the securing score for Ballinabrackey to leave the final score as Ballinabrackey 2:10 St. Colmcilles 0:12. This was a great game of football between both sides but Ballinabrackey were delighted to come out with the win after a hard fought battle.

This premier team move from strength to strength with an unbeaten record and will look forward to their next match. A huge thank you to St. Colmcilles for the excellent hospitality offering the Ballinabrackey side refreshments after the game and also a mention to their fantastic facilities.
