June 18, 2021

St Brigids Michael Flood

St Brigids 1-6 Carnaross 1-11

St Brigid’s welcomed long time rivals Carnaross to Ballinacree on Wednesday evening for their first home game of the year. The pitch was in perfect form and the calm, dry weather set ideal conditions for both players and spectators.

It became evident from the first whistle that the visitors meant business and came at the Brigids with intent and force, quickly hitting over 3 points in the opening minutes. Kevin Gilsenan put the home side on the board with the Brigids first point of the game which was soon followed by another score being tapped over by Cormac Browne. The Brigids seemed to find their stride after the water break, and good ball work in the forward line resulted in Stephen Browne netting a goal for the blues after a pass off from Michael Flood. Another score hit over the crossbar from  Flood, brought the Brigids to a 3 point lead, but Carnaross were quick to respond and responding scores seen the sides level at half time. St Brigids (1-3) Carnaross (0-6)

The second half seen the  intensity level raise, and there was obvious want for a win on both sides. Carnaross came at the Brigids half with force and had 3 goal attempts which were excellently saved by keeper Dylan Scully and one with an assist by full back Andrew Geraghty. The two sides kept each other challenged and went score for score until the 24th minute of the second half when it was fourth time lucky for the Carnaross attack and they managed to find that back of the net. St Brigids worked hard to come back at the visiting side with several unsuccessful attempts, and Carnaross continued to pull ahead in the dying minutes to ensure they went home with the win under their belt. St Brigids (1.06) Carnaross (1.11)

A physical and demanding game from start to finish and a good test for the Ballinacree men as they go into the third round of the league next Wednesday 23rd at home again.
