Lorraine Curtis gains possession for St Michaels against Royal Gaels

St. Michaels 3-17, Royal Gaels 1-08,                                                  

St. Michaels ladies kept their game very much on track through the course of the hour ending with an excellent victory over a battling Royal Gaels outfit in Dunshaughlin last evening.

Both teams came into the game with high hopes of collecting the points however it was the St. Michaels ladies who went home the happier after putting in a polished display all over the pitch and especially in picking off points from a variety of angles. Royal Gaels may have lost out in the end but they showed some great qualities throughout the game, even when the game had moved away from them in the second half as they continued to battle to the end.

Marion Farrelly opened the scoring with a point in the opening minute, then Alicia Curtis blasted to the bottom corner five minutes later with Emma Carolan following up splitting the posts for an early 5 point lead. Royal Gaels pulled two back in as many minutes however St. Michaels hit the target again when Sinéad McCormack split the posts and Megan O'Brien beating Orlagh McLoughlin in the Royal's goals with a rasping shot after been put through by Marion Farrelly. O'Brien then went on a great surging run up-field before laying off to Seona Lynch who went through for her opening point, a point apiece from McCormack and O'Brien gave St. Michaels a 2-6 to 0-4 interval lead.                                     

Marion Farrelly opened the second half as she did the first with a point after 30 seconds, she added a further five to her tally before the long whistle, Seona Lynch added a further 1-2, Megan O'Brien 0-2 and a point apiece from Emma McDonnell and substitute Brioch Meehan all contributed for a deserved victory.
Royal Gaels kept going to the long whistle adding 1-4, however they found it difficult to breach the St. Michaels rearguard where Marita Rogers, Áine Sheridan, Erin Lynch and Lorraine Curtis were in excellent form.
