Colleges: Comfortable start for St Pats

St Patricks Classical School recorded a comfortable win over St Fintans High School Sutton in the opening round of the Leinster Post Primary Senior Football A championship at a windy Pairc Tailteann.

The Navan school played against the wind in the opening half. Half back Oisin Martyn got the scoreboard ticking with a fine point. Mark Foy and Eanna O'Kelly Lynch added like scores and Pats were 3 up inside ten minutes. Sean Grenham pulled a point back for the visitrs before Eoin Finnegan got in for the games opening goal to open up a five point gap.

Grenham's point was Fintan's only score of the half as Pats took over. O'Kelly Lynch (2)and Finnegan (2) raised white flags before full forward Conor Nash closed out the half with a goal. St Pats went in at the break 2-7 to 0-1 in front.

The impressive O'Kelly Lynch kicked the opening point of the second half. The Dublin school gave themselves some hope when Kevin Doran blasted to the net at the hospital end. The revival  was short-lived and from the kick out Cian O'Reilly shot ended up in the Sutton net.  The home team took over once more and scored 1-8 without replay, substitute Paddy Carpenter getting the goal.

Doran repeated the same act again after 20 minutes with another well taken goal but yet again St pats responded with a like score. This time Eanna Mooney found the St Fintans net for St Pats 5th goal. Alan Wall finished out the scoring with a brilliant point as Pats and their supporters marched on the the second round.
