Tyrone were crowned All-Ireland senior football champions for the first time since 2008 after delivering an assured performance to get the better of Mayo at Croke Park this afternoon.
The Red Hands enjoyed a comfortable 2-14 to 0-15 win over the Connacht champions in the end thanks to second-half goals from substitute Cathal McShane and Darren McCurry.
Rocked by a Covid-19 outbreak last month, it's a remarkable achievement for the Ulster side jointly-managed by Brian Dooher and Feargal Logan in their first season at the helm.
For Mayo, the long wait for a Sam Maguire goes on as they failed to scale the heights of their sensational semi-final victory over holders Dublin and succumbed to a heartbreaking sixth All-Ireland final defeat in ten years.
A second green flag courtesy of man-of-the-match McCurry killed off the challenge of the Connacht champions after there had been just two points separating the sides at half-time, 0-10 to 0-8 in favour of the eventual winners.
Continuing his super-sub role, McShane had given Tyrone a four-point lead midway though the second period when fisting home an exquisite Conor Meyler pass, just moments after Mayo sharpshooter Ryan O'Donoghue missed a crucial penalty.
