Mayo's hopes of ending their All-Ireland famine have been boosted by the news that Oisín Mullin is winning his fitness battle.

The Irish Independent is reporting that last season's Young Footballer of the Year has resumed training ahead of Saturday's showdown with Tyrone after missing the Connacht champions' semi-final win over Dublin with a quad injury.

It was initially thought that Mullin had no chance of playing, but a quicker-than-expected recovery, coupled with the final being put back by two weeks, has put him in the frame for selection.

Fellow defender Eoghan McLaughlin, who suffered a double jaw fracture following a heavy challenge from Dublin's John Small, could also see action at Croke Park.
