JUNIOR A HURLERS: The Junior A hurlers suffered defeat to a strong Doon side in the County Championship. Peter Harty gave Patrickswell an early lead when he struck a fine point in the first minute. Doon equalised within a minute, but Sam McNamara restored the advantage with a point in the sixth minute. The pace of scoring remained low and Doon were level again by the twelfth minute. The 'Well put some daylight between themselves and Doon when Peter Harty and Gavin Carey notched points to build a 0-4 to 0-2 lead. Before the first water break, Gavin Carey had a point sandwiched between a pair of Doon points. At the water break, the 'Well led by 0-5 to 0-4. Eoin Harmon's point stretched the advantage to two points; however Doon accumulated three unanswered points in seven minutes to force the 'Well behind at 0-7 to 0-6. Another Eoin Harmon free restored parity, but Doon pressed forward again and they produced another flurry of three straight points before half-time. At the interval, Patrickswell were 0-10 to 0-7 in arrears.

 

Patrickswell started the second half with an Eoin Harmon free. Doon were unfazed and hurt Patrickswell with a trio of points in a seven-minute spell. By the 40th minute, the East Men were 0-13 to 0-8 ahead. Patrickswell were matched at every turn and three 'Well points from Eoin Harmon (0-2) and Jamie Dillon were cancelled out. The second half-water break showed Patrickswell behind by 0-16 to 0-11. When Doon opened up a six-point lead, the game seemed to slip away from the 'Well. However, the deficit was slashed to a goal when Eoin Harmon, Paul O'Brien and Shane Hannon contributed three points in two minutes. There was a grandstand finale in store with six minutes left and Doon were ahead by 0-17 to 0-14. To their credit, Doon managed the closing stages effectively and saw off Patrickswell with two insurance points. The final score was a 0-19 to 0-14 defeat.

 

 

JUNIOR B HURLERS: Patrickswell and Kildimo-Pallaskenry played out an exciting draw in the City Championship at Pairc Antoin O'Briain. Kildimo-Pallaskenry took a third minute lead, but Patrickswell fired over four points in five minutes (Des Foley 0-2, Declan O'Grady and Jack Gorman). The visitors were level at 0-4 apiece by the water break when they added three points in three minutes. The remainder of the first half was keenly contested, with both teams helping themselves to three points (Des Foley 0-2 and Jack Gorman). By half-time, the score was level at 0-7 apiece.

 

The second half began with Kildimo-Pallaskenry taking charge. They accrued four points in ten minutes after Des Foley had struck the opening point of the half. By the 40th minute, Patrickswell were 0-11 to 0-8 behind. Two points from Jack Gorman stemmed the flow and the 'Well entered the water break with a deficit of one point at 0-11 to 0-10. The visitors increased their lead to two points after the water break, but they were stunned when Jack O'Gorman plundered two points and Alan Enright scored his first point. There was about five minutes left and the home team had carved out a 0-13 to 0-12 lead. Despite conceding an equalising point, Barry Foley kept the 'Well ahead by 0-14 to 0-13 at the start of injury time. The signs looked good for a Patrickswell victory, but Kildimo-Pallaskenry earned a late free to level the match. The referee immediately blew the final whistle to seal an entertaining 0-14 to 0-14 draw.

 

 

CLUB LOTTO: The Club Lotto draw on Monday September 13 was not won. The numbers drawn were 7, 10, 16 and 19. The bonus number was 29. The €100 Lucky Dip was won by Mary Bennis and the €20 prizes were claimed by Patsy Lyons, Seamus Kirby, Nigel Mann, Richard Maher and Liz Hayes. This week's jackpot is €8,200.
