Na Piarsaigh overcame the absence of injured county stars Mike and Peter Casey and Jerome Boylan to open their Limerick SHC title defence with a 10-point victory yesterday evening.

The Caherdavin men upped the tempo in the second-half to beat Kilmallock 3-16 to 0-15 at the LIT Sportsgrounds.

There was nothing between the teams in the opening 30 minutes as two scores on the spin from Gavin O'Mahony and David Woulfe left Kilmallock trailing by two points at the break - 0-10 to 0-8.

Within 20 seconds of the restart, Conor Boylan stretched the gap to five with Na Piarsaigh's opening goal before they added further majors from substitute Adrian Breen and David Dempsey.

Declan Hannon's Adare also made a winning start to the campaign when seeing off Monaleen 2-27 to 1-16 at the LIT Gaelic Grounds on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, Patrickswell will make their 2021 championship bow against Doon at the Ennis road venue this afternoon.
