Killeedy GAA & Camogie Healthy Club Project:

Killeedy GAA & Camogie Club to receive a brand new, state-of-the-art AED / Defibrillator:

The GAA are participating in the Community Heart Program to assist in raising the funds required to enable the placement and upgrade of existing AED's, or automated external defibrillators, in every Club. What is an AED? An AED is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It is a sophisticated, portable, easy to use medical device that can analyse the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electronic shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective heart rhythm. THANKS TO ALL WHO HELP FUNDRAISE FOR THIS INITIATIVE

SunSmart:

Those who pursue outdoor sport and leisure are a high risk group for the development of skin cancer, as they spend long periods of time outdoors. Both occasional and often sun exposure can be harmful. Exposure causing sunburn is the most damaging but frequent non burning exposures also significantly increase the risk of skin cancer. This risk can be reduced by following the SunSmart steps to protect the skin.

The Healthy Ireland SunSmart programme and the Irish Cancer Prevention Network are engaging with sports bodies and organisations to raise awareness of the risks of skin cancer and the simple SunSmart behaviours that can protect your skin. See attached document for further details and information which you can use to share across your networks.

Community Enrichment Grants – 26 Counties

The 2021 Community Enhancement Programme (CEP) will provide small grants designed to assist in the re-opening of facilities such as community centres, men’s and women’s sheds, parish halls and youth centres. The grants will range from a few hundred euro up to €10,000, however, exceptions will be made depending on the application. The funding is to help groups and clubs get back on their feet and may be used to carry out necessary renovations and repairs or to purchase equipment such as tables and chairs, tools and signage, laptops and printers, lawnmowers, canopies, training equipment and so on. The funding is administered locally by Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs) across the country, with support from their Local Authority. Applications for funding can be made to the relevant LCDC. Contact details for LCDCs are available here.

The How of Men's Health

Please see attached an invite to our upcoming webinar on Men's Health - 'The How of Men's Health', on the 16th June during Men's Health Week. Registration link is here: https://bit.ly/2R9Rpzu

This is the second in our 2021 series of webinars on men's health and we are delighted to announce that we will have special guest and Mayo GAA legend David Brady on to tell us what he learned about connecting with men during COVID. We also have a range of very experienced speakers who will share their learning on engaging men and supporting their health and wellbeing. You can see the previous webinar from April 'Why Men's Health?' here: https://bit.ly/3umyAY0 . Men's Health Week is an opportunity to focus on the wellbeing of men and boys and the key theme in 2021 is encouraging everyone to begin the process of 'MAKING THE CONNECTIONS' and to 'CHECK IN, CHECK UP, CHECK IT OUT'.  This call to action speaks to the key priority following the impact of COVID-19 and the need for us all to rebuild and nourish our networks and support structures. Go to mhfi.org  for more information. We would be delighted if you could join us on the day and please feel free to share this invite with your colleagues and networks. #MensHealthWeek #CheckItOut

Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative:

The Expression of interest for DEYLI 2021-2022 is now open. The ideal is that your club take the DEYLI  initiative on board and recruit young people to get involved in the programme. We ask clubs to have a minimum of two DEYLI facilitators. Facilitator training is delivered by Foróige and brings you through the running of the programme within your club. The running period for a club tends to be the school year,  I have attached some FAQ’s regarding the programme. Kevin Spain a former DEYLI tutor hosted an excellent webinar last week that went through all the details regarding DEYLI. Click HERE to re-watch the webinar. It's a great initiative and a really good opportunity for that age group to get some valuable skills and a significant qualification. Blánaid will be happy to answer any questions you have on the programme on 01 819 2387.
