Kilkenny legend Tommy Walsh says he couldn’t look past Limerick’s Gearóid Hegarty when picking his ‘Hurler of the Year’ for 2020.

Walsh recently named his All Star selections on Off The Ball and included nine Treaty men in his team following John Kiely’s side’s second All-Ireland SHC triumph in three years.

On his pick for Hurler of the Year, the nine-time All-Ireland winner said it was a close call between Hegarty and team mate Kyle Hayes.

“I had narrowed it down to Kyle Hayes and Gearóid Hegarty and the defender in me wanted to give it to Kyle Hayes,” said Walsh.

"You can't look past a man who scored 0-7 in an All-Ireland final though, 0-4 in a semi-final, the guy who was tipped for Hurler of the Year before the Final and had all the pressure on him.

"Everyone said there was a way to stop him, but nobody could do it. He was a man-mountain and Gearoid Hegarty is fully deserving of it."
