Kildare midfielder Kevin Feely admitted to being "devastated" following his team's All-Ireland SFC qualifier defeat to Mayo.
The Lilywhites showed a marked improvement from their 14-point Leinster final loss at the hands of Dublin but blew a six-point lead in the second-half as Mayo came back from the dead to win by 2-13 to 0-14 at Croke Park yesterday. Oisin Mullin's 62nd minute goal was a key turning point in the game.
"We're absolutely devastated. We had a huge amount to prove after the Leinster final... we let ourselves down big time [against Dublin]. I don't think it was a reflection of the type of players we are, the type of people we are so we came in here certainly with a point to prove... that was a big driving factor behind our performance today," man-of-the-match Feely told Sky Sports.
He added: "We were really looking forward to the draw. We thought this was exactly what we wanted, an opportunity to redeem ourselves in Croke Park where we maybe haven't performed well in recent years.
"It's hard but I suppose there's an element of pride in the fact that we played reasonably well..."
