Naas fire four goals past champions in opening round of Kildare SFC

On a busy Saturday in the opening round of the Kildare SFC, four-goal Naas stunned reigning champions Athy.

Former Kildare star Eamonn Callaghan struck 1-4, while Paddy McDermott, Darragh Kirwan and James Burke also rattled the Athy net in a 4-12 to 2-13 victory in Newbridge.

Ronan Sweeney's Moorefield charges exacted revenge for last year's shock loss to Raheens when they beat the Caragh outfit 3-12 to 0-17.

Shane Doyle netted twice as Sarsfields scored four second-half goals on their way to a 5-17 to 0-7 win over Carbury.

In the first of a quadruple-header at St Conleth's Park, Brian McLoughlin scored 0-10 as Clane overcame Castledermot 1-18 to 1-14.

At the Centre of Excellence in Hawkfield, Celbridge defeated Eadestown by 1-19 to 2-9, Clogherinkoe and Round Towers finished level at 0-9 each, Confey drew 0-10 apiece with St Laurence'a and Maynooth were 3-12 to 2-12 winners over Johnstownbridge.
